The First Age of #Almea: The Metaforician Age

Much of the history of the Metaforician Age of #almea is shrouded in mystery, and as Logging had not yet been discovered, all we know of it comes from oral histories and myths. No other records exist from this time period, but much can be induced from the legends. The one thing we do know is that the first nascence of civilization arrose under the leadership of Metaforik, a warrior‐king said to have come from Romania, the primordial home of the gods. Beneath his aegis the followers of Zompist rallied and formed the first coherent community of #almea. But the glory did not last. Sadly, with the First Loss of Metaforik, the unity was slowly lost and all was much as before.

The Second Age of #Almea: The Age of the Halfops

Tumult and anguish troubled the lands of #almea: a great Freeze had fallen on the home of their fathers and chieftains, and in a perilous cataclysm the conduit to Almighty Zompist was lost. In panic, the #almeans resortede to violence, anarchy, and cannibalism. There was no order to be found, as brother slew brother and the sword ruled all, save in one man: Nikolai. The ancient chronicles say not whence this savior came. Some said he was Metaforik reincarnated. Others rumored he was Zompist himself. But, wherever his origins, Nikolai delivered the warring tribes of #almea from a pit deeper than that from which Metaforik in prehistoric times made his kingdom to a halcyon age like none had seen before. And under the guidance of this messiah, the #almeans outlasted the Freeze in faith.

In time the Freeze passed, and the oracles and priests of Zompistism again resumed their fruitful practices. #Almea prospered, and from this bounty a select few of the more successful denizens arose into power. They were princes who ruled above the plebeian populace, yet beneath Lord Nikolai and his chosen Council of Ops. They were the Halfops: intermediaries between the rich and the poor, and arbitrators for the aristocracy as well as the deprived. The people of #almea accepted this passively, and the land continued to prosper. But the hierarchy was not perfectly stable, and suspicions permeated the ruling class.

Among the chosen few of Nikolai, one Op—Dazi—ruled above the others. More people did she govern, and more often did she attend to her duties; and all the people of #almea knew the name of Dazi before all others. But gradually, to the despair of her subjects, Dazi grew more complacent and careless with her powers. More and more people were being banned, and the People became restless. The Halfops, too, suffered under her reign of terror; but they were not to stand aside and watch #Almea crumble. A massive underground movement was begun, eventually comprising nearly 90% of #almeans. The board was set for the coup d’etat.

But dissent grew. Whimemsz the Jew, a Halfop to whom Dazi was known to be more judicious, expressed uncertainty for the coup. There are rumors that Dazi was unofficially “reimbursing” the discordant Halfop, in exchange for a turn of the cheek to peculations by Dazi, but this has not been confirmed. As the story goes, Whimemsz the Jew broke into an argument with Cevlakohn the Ever‐Angry, the indignant organizer of the coup, and threatened to expose the operation to Dazi herself. Cevlakohn responded by getting increasingly angry. Unable to resolve the conflict, Whimemsz led Dazi to the headquarters of the underground operation, where a brawl ensued between perpetrators of the coup and Dazi’s personal bodyguard. When things seemed at their worst, Nikolai the Great arrived like deus ex machina to justly reprimand both sides. Nikolai saw his error in appointing Ops and in allowing these Halfops to emerge as a power and abolished both positions, leaving solely in its place a benevolent dictatorship led by himself.

It is written in the account of this era the only known order given by Nikolai to his Nation and People of #almea that survives to the present day: “[!_O\] Get over it.”
