Alveolo-palatal
From KneeQuickie
Alveolo-palatal consonants (sometimes called alveo-palatal or palato-alveolar) are those made in a place of articulation around the middle of the mouth, between the alveolar ridge and the hard palate. The term "alveolo-palatal" only refers to laminal consonants made at this place of articulation; apical alveolo-palatal consonants are called retroflex.
Alveolo-palatal consonants other than fricatives and affricates are extremely rare, as they are very hard to distinguish from neighbouring coronal places of articulation. The IPA only has separate symbols for the fricatives:
| IPA | X-Sampa | |
| Unvoiced fricative | ɕ | /s\/ |
| Voiced fricative | ʑ | /z\/ |
