Alternate Solar System

The Alternate Solar System (A.S.S.) is the name given by Curlyjimsam to his major conworld. This universe is almost exactly identical to our own, apart from a few small changes. Firstly, the planets Venus and Mars are both inhabitable and actually inhabited. Secondly, for some reasons which have not yet been explicitly laid down, the actual lifeforms which inhabited these planets are, and have always been, very similar to each other. Thirdly, the existence of some very useful chemicals makes space travel much easier and faster, which means the inhabitants of the three planets are able to interact relatively easily.
The current incarnation of the A.S.S. is known as Mark II. The previous version, Mark I, was discarded in the summer of 2006. It differed from the current version in several ways, principally that all the major celestial bodies in the Solar System (including all the planets, the Sun, and many asteroids, comets and moons) were inhabited in addition to Earth, Venus and Mars.
